Social Program

The social program for WIFS 2024 comprises a welcome reception, a guided visit to “Palazzo Barberini”, and a gala dinner at the roof restaurant of the Hotel Sina Bernini Bristol.

Welcome Reception

The welcome reception will be given on December 2nd, 2024, at the workshop venue, in the foyer of the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DIIEM) of Roma Tre University, located in Via V. Volterra 62, 00146, Rome, Italy. The welcome reception will start after the end of the Tutorials, approximately at 18:30, and last till 21:00.

Social Event

The social event will take place on December 4th, 2024, and will consist in a guided visit to “Palazzo Barberini“.

Buses will move from the conference venue at 15:00 after the end of the technical program, in order to reach the museum and allow the first visit at 16:00. Four groups of 25 people will be arranged, with guided visits scheduled every 30 minutes.

The buses will stop in Via Veneto, one of the most famous, elegant, and expensive streets of Rome, the most renowed symbol of “La dolce vita ” made famous by Federico Fellini. From there, the museum can be reached by walking, being at an approximated distance of 700m. Other famous locations close to “Palazzo Barberini” include “Fontana di Trevi” (600m) and “Piazza di Spagna” (900m).

Palazzo Barberini” is a 17th-century palace in Rome, Rione Trevi. Today, it houses the “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica”, the main national collection of older paintings in Rome.

The Palace has been built by three great architects, namely Carlo Maderno, Francesco Borromini, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, each contributing his own style and character.

The “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica” is hosted within “Palazzo Barberini”, and it is the principal national collection of older paintings in Rome, mostly from before 1800. It includes artworks from Bernini, Caravaggio, van Dick, Holbein, Beato Angelico, Lippi, Lotto, Preti, Poussin, El Greco, Raphael, Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Rubens, Murillo, Rebera, and Titian.

The palace also houses the Italian Institute of Numismatics. The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which created the European Court of Human Rights, was signed here on 4 November 1950, a milestone in the protection of human rights.

Gala Dinner

The Gala Dinner will take place at the rooftop restaurant of the Hotel Sina Bernini Bristol. The Hotel is located in Piazza Barberini 23, 300m far from “Palazzo Barberini”.

Located in the heart of Baroque Rome and Italian fashion, the Sina Bernini Bristol is a 5-star hotel that has been a benchmark for luxury hospitality in Rome for 150 years. The hotel has recently undergone a complete renovation, giving the public areas and guestrooms a new contemporary look.

The restaurant is located up on the 8th floor of the Hotel, and serves food of the highest class.

The dinner will include an aperitif served on the rooftop starting from 19:15.

NOTE: after the dinner there will be no return buses. There is a Metro station (Line A – Barberini) just in front of the hotel. The metro service on line A currently stops at 21:00, yet there are public buses replacing the metro service till 23:30, with the stops closest to the Hotel being in Via Veneto, corner piazza Barberini (bus stop 70858 Barberini MA) and Via Barberini, corner Piazza Barberini (bus stop 73889 Barberini MA). The Termini metro station, served by the metro line B which runs till 23:30, is 1,1Km far from the Hotel Sina Bernini Bristol.
